The return of the jacket is no shocker fall and I’m seeing more emphasis on outerwear now than ever before! There’s a wide variety of “go to” jackets that are must haves this season. From casual lightweight versions perfect for transition, to heavy tweed to carry us into winter. You’ll find all of my favorite trends this season here!
I style all of these pieces in multiple ways to show how you can take a good jacket anywhere… from the office to happy hour or on a night out with the girls!
The trends below are all different and unique in their own ways. You can easily recreate these looks as there are so many trendy options out right now. I have so many ideas on how to style these in more ways than what is shown below. If you have questions or want advice on more ways to style these looks, feel free drop me a line or as always, comment on this post! I will also express some other ideas as I go through each.
FIVE FALL JACKET TRENDS
# 1. The Trench
This Theory yellow silk trench is unbelievable, it’s like out of a dream! The quality of this piece is so well made and it’s so versatile. I love how it effortlessly flows when you walk. It feels like water flowing over your body.
I styled the first look with an Alice + Olivia leopard print midi sheath dress. Animal print is SO hot right now. Alice + Olivia is really stepping out this season with so much leopard print and I am totally digging it. For an added flare, I paired the dress and trench with a purple suede over the shoulder Gucci bag and black suede pumps.
In the second look, I’ve paired the same Theory trench with a Tibi gingham corset mini dress, black Tony Bianco suede sock booties (on sale right now), Morgenthal Frederics shades and my classic red jumbo double flap caviar Chanel bag.
# 2. The Classic Plaid Blazer
OK ya’ll, I have to say I’m obsessed with Veronica Beard. This brand has really caught my eye this year. Everything in this collection is so versatile, classic, chic and extremely well made.
This Veronica Beard plaid suit is so classy and elegant. When I tried this blazer on I fell in love! I’m wearing the full suit in the images below with a crisp tailored white button-up shirt, pumps and my classic chevron oxblood Yves Saint Laurent shoulder bag.
I changed the blazer to a more casual look by transitioning out the white shirt for a cream turtleneck bodysuit, jeans and loafers. The turtleneck is Free People and the skinny jeans and loafers are from Madewell.
# 3. The Hooded Blazer
I adore this Alice +Olivia boxy hooded blazer. It can be dressed both up and down and is a unique and super cool new trend that is hitting the streets in a big way this fall. As you can see, the one I’m wearing is in black and it comes in white as well. There are other fun options that have caught my eye which I have linked below.
- Veronica Beard
- Romeo and Juliet
- Alice + Olivia (on sale!!)
- Alice + Olivia Leopard Hooded Coat
- Alice + Olivia Red Leather
The pants in this look are Derek Lam 10 Crosby flared trousers and they fit like a glove! The hooded blazer could also be worn with destroyed jeans and sneakers for a more casual look or even skinny black jeans and boots.
# 4. The Leather Moto Jacket
If you’re looking to add an edge to your outfits and to your wardrobe, definitely make sure to have a leather (or faux leather) jacket on hand. There are tons of different options in stores right now in many different colors, cuts and with different hardware. The moto jacket isn’t going anywhere any time soon. The jacket in my look is All Saints and I bought this beauty in London earlier this year. It’s my favorite leather jacket and one that will be taking me into fall and even into winter. This piece will last for years to come.
I’ve paired this jacket with a Cami NYC silk lace cami, brixton fiddler cap (sold out in the grey black combo but I’ve linked it here in all black), Rag & Bone ultra skinny black jeans, metallic clutch and the staple black Christian Louboutin bootie.
# 5. The Patchwork Plaid Jacket
The biggest trend this fall is plaid and I’m all about it. Everywhere you look you see plaid. Plaid dresses, plaid pants, coats, shirts and even shoes! Plaid comes in different colors and styles, which make it a wardrobe classic. This Alice + Olivia piece is so worth the investment because of how many ways you can wear it, not to mention it’s stunning. The lining of this jacket is red silk, it has blue suede in the lapel and both compliment the patchwork and plaid perfectly.
The second look is paired with the same cream turtleneck body suit from free people, black Rag & Bone ultra skinny jeans and Christian Louboutin booties for a more casual look.
